Book Club Instructions Instrucciones en español Choose a book that you wish to read from the list. If you are a NAEYC Comprehensive member, you may already have the book. If you do not have the book, the book may be purchased through the FLAEYC office.  A list of books is below, Click on the title for a description.  Click on Purchase Books Here to order a book.

Begin reading your book and working on your assignment.  From this point you will have 60 days to submit the assignment. You will receive a confirmation letter that will include the due date of the assignment.

After reading the book, send the assignment to the FLAEYC office via email. The office will send the assignment to the Professional Development Committee for review.  The reviewer will reply back to the office within 3 weeks either accepting the submission or requesting more information.

You must complete a writing assignment answering the following questions about the book:

• Briefly summarize each chapter of the book including what you perceive to be the main points. (150 – 300 words for each chapter)
• What did you hope to learn from this book before reading it? What did you learn? (150 – 300 words)
• Name several things you agreed with in the book. Was there anything you disagreed with? Why? (150- 300 words)
• How can you apply the knowledge you received as a result of reading this book to the work that you do? ( 150 – 300 words)
• Find an additional resource or article on the same topic as the book. List the resource and tell us what additional information you received. (150 – 300 words)

For the Book Activities That Build the Young Child’s Brain, the assignment is a little different.

• Briefly summarize each chapter of the book including what you perceive to be the main points. Select one activity and write how you can apply it to your teaching situation in each chapter (150 – 300 words for each chapter).
• What did you hope to learn from this book before reading it? What did you learn? (150 – 300 words)
• Name several things you agreed with in the book. Was there anything you disagreed with? Why? Point out the activities that you feel would not work in your setting and why. Tell those that you tried and the outcome (150 – 300 words for each chapter).
• How can you apply the knowledge you received as a result of reading this book to the work that you do? Describe how you can incorporate this book into your weekly planning (150 – 300 words for each chapter).
• Find an additional resource or article on the same topic as the book. List the resource and tell us what additional information you received (150 – 300 words).

The assignment needs to be submitted to the office via email and must contain your name and contact information, as well as the name of the book that you chose. Pages must be numbered.

The assignment must be typed. Spelling, neatness, and grammar will count.

You must demonstrate a clear understanding of the book and this must be reflected in the clarity of the questions that you answer.

This work must be you own work. Plagiarized work is unacceptable.

Membership must be current throughout the duration of the course in order to receive free CEUs.

The FLAEYC office will contact you by e-mail, letting you know when your assignment was received.  It will be sent to a reviewer and you will be notified if it is accepted or if it needs further development. If accepted you will receive a certificate for up to 2 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) or 20 in-service hours.

$25 for Members; $45 for non-members.  $15 cancellation fee.
Refunds, minus the cancellation fee, must be requested within 2 weeks of registration.
