FLAEYC Congratulates these award winners: Connie Williams in Washington D. C. accepting an Award for National Child Care Provider by our Senator Bill Nelson.Congratulations to Connie Williams, AEYC of the Palm Beaches from Delray Beach who will be representing the state of Florida at the second annual National Child Care Provider Awards celebration on May 7, 2009. She is being recognized for her dedication to the community and for offering exemplary child care for nearly twenty years. Senator Bill Nelson is scheduled to attend the ceremony in Washington, D.C. and will present Connie with a certificate of recognition and achievement. Congratulations to Lois Wachtel, Owner of Creative Beginning Steps in Boca Raton, for being chosen Adjunct Professor of the Year for Palm Beach Community CollegeFLAEYC Barbara Finck Outstanding Member Award Winner for 2009 This award is given during the annual conference to recognize the outstanding work of one or more individual FLORIDA AEYC members. Barbara served as the first President of FACUS in 1956 and as President of SACUS in 1960-62. This award, formerly known as the FACUS Award, was renamed in her honor in 1995. Bobbie Mathews who used the award money for a kite flying community project.FLAEYC 2008 Children’s Champions Representative Janet Long Representative Janet Long began her political career as a Legislative Aide in 1975 and then became Deputy Insurance Commissioner. In 2002, Representative Long was elected to the Seminole City Council. In 2006, she was elected to the Florida House of Representatives. Janet serves on the Education Innovation and Career Preparation Committee, and Education Schools and Learning Council. She co-sponsored the VPK Teacher Education bill this past year. Her day job is Director of Advancement, Clearwater Central Catholic High School. Dr. Wil Blechman Dr, Wil Blechman is a retired rheumatologist who developed a major interest in children’s issues and recent research on brain development in the preschool child. He is Director of Docs For Tots-Florida, Charter President of the Florida Association for Infant Mental Health, Vice Chair of the Board of The Miami-Dade Children’s Trust, and Board Member of The Children’s Forum and the Lawton Chiles Foundation. He travels the state speaking to early care and education professionals about the brain development of young children.
