Teresa McKay
President Elect
Serving on the FLAEYC Board of Directors represents a meaningful opportunity for me to continue advocating for and supporting the early childhood education community across Florida. With over 40 years of experience in the field—as a teacher, program director, trainer, higher education faculty member, and business owner, I bring a multifaceted understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing early educators today.
My passion for advancing high-quality early learning is grounded in both lived experience and long-standing professional involvement. I’ve owned and operated an NAEYC-accredited program, served as President of the Southeastern Regional Chapter of INAEYC, and currently teach third grade in Polk County Public Schools. I have also contributed nationally as a PD Specialist and Gold Standard Reviewer for the Council for Professional Recognition and as a peer reviewer for NAEYC Higher Ed Accreditation. These roles have sharpened my leadership skills and deepened my commitment to standards-based practice and meaningful professional development.
As FLAEYC’s current Board Secretary, I’ve developed a strong working knowledge of our governance structure, budgeting, and strategic priorities. I have had the privilege of supporting our state conference for several years and consistently advocate for professional development that is practical, inclusive, and accessible. I also bring a national perspective, having presented at local, state, and national conferences on topics ranging from family engagement to trauma-informed practice and early brain development.
I am particularly drawn to FLAEYC’s mission to support, connect, and elevate Florida’s early childhood professionals. My strengths — strategic thinking, clear communication, deep content knowledge, and a collaborative leadership style — align with the work ahead. I believe in the power of collective voice, and I see this role as an opportunity to ensure that all early educators feel heard, supported, and valued.
If selected, I will bring both experience and vision to the board, helping to shape policies and initiatives that reflect the realities of our diverse field while moving us toward an even stronger, more connected future.
